History...
F ('Farquarson') Class evolved from Target Rifle (TR) shooting in the mid 1990s.
This new variant of TR was introduced in 1997, originally intended to allow TR shooters with eyesight, or other physical problems, to carry on in the sport by allowing greater freedom to use optical sights, rifle rests etc.
Since then, F Class has evolved into a discipline in its own right with regular competitions held at most ranges and clubs throughout the UK.

The sport today...
F Class is the fastest growing target shooting discipline in the UK.
The targets and course of fire are identical to TR but competitors may use a scope and the rifle can be supported mechanically front and rear.
Any calibre is allowed up to 8mm but neither belted magnum cartridges or muzzle brakes are permitted.
Equipment has become more sophisticated and Open class shooters now use full 'benchrest' kit in the prone position, on grass.

FT/R shooting...
Another class exists for the NATO calibres (.308/7.62mm and .223/5.56mm) but support is limited to a simple bi-pod and back-bag. This class is called F/TR and is an ideal way for new shooters to enter the world of long-range rifle competition.
