FAQ about custom and factory F Class rifles in the UK:
Some frequently asked questions...
I'm interested in taking up the sport of rifle shooting... where should I start?
There are a wealth of clubs and ranges throughout the UK offering probationery membership, to give you a taste of the sport before you make the commitment to rifle ownership. Read our outline of the sport page, where you will find links to a list of clubs!
Will I need to hold a Firearm Certificate?
Yes. Although the process may seem daunting at first, so long as you fulfill the legal criteria it is relatively straightforward and your club, or a registered firearms dealer such as Osprey Rifles, will be more than happy to guide you through the process. Read the section on Firearms Law for more information.
I have a slight physical disability, will I still be able to enjoy the sport?
Of course! F Class shooting was originally introduced to make the sport more inclusive and most club competitions make special arrangements for those who may have difficulties in firing prone.
How much does it cost for the necessary equipment?
It used to be the case that most people began in the sport with a factory rifle, costing between £1,000 and £1,200 out-of-the-box. With the price of a custom built rifle from Savage Arms costing very little more, a lot of new shooters are now opting for one designed for their needs!
What calibre of rifle should I choose?
It depends entirely upon the disciplines you wish to participate in. Your club or rifle dealer will advise you!
Apart from a rifle, what other equipment will I need?
The most important is an optical sight and your choice of rifle rest, possibly in the form of a bipod or bag. You'll find more information in the accessories section of this site.
